ACA: Everything You Need to Know Webinar Series
The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities presents a webinar series titled “ACA: Everything You Need to Know” to help explain what tax preparers need to know about the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to complete tax returns and assist low-income tax clients. The series is designed to help VITA sites and outreach partners prepare for the tax season.

Part I: Introduction to the ACA – Minimum Essential Coverage

The first webinar provides an overview of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and discusses the requirements to have coverage, including who it applies to, what coverage meets the minimum requirements, and how to account for insurance coverage on the tax return.
Part II: Exemptions

The second webinar focuses on exemptions from the individual shared responsibility payment (also known as the tax penalty) for failing to maintain health insurance coverage.
Please note that the PowerPoint slide deck has been updated to include a new exemption regarding individuals who are ineligible for Medicaid based on a state decision not to expand Medicaid.
Part III: Premium Tax Credits

The third webinar discusses premium tax credits and the process for calculating the final credit on a tax return. Most people eligible for premium tax credits took the credit in advance and will need to reconcile the amount they received in advance with their final credit.
